Hot List 2019
Condé Nast Traveller
The Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is the only 5* property with a SPA all-inclusive concept in Bhutan, an upscale mountainside retreat. Taking design styles from Buddhist monasteries both inside and out, the property centres on well-being. Opened in August 2018, and already named in 2019 by Vanity Fair as “the most charming 5-star property in Bhutan”, the Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary is a magical new resort in the Himalayan Kingdom. It’s also on the 2019 Condé Nast Traveller Hot list of new openings in Asia.
Inspired by the Bhutanese concept of a Zatsang (family), the property aims to offer a home-away-from-home where guests can disconnect form the outside world, immerse themselves in Bhutanese culture and relax amidst the stunning surroundings.
The property itself is a stunning blend of monastic and dzong architectural features that complements its location perfectly. With sweeping panoramic views of mountains shrouded in pristine primordial Himalayan forests and easy access to rarely visited hikes, the location feels deep within the country’s heart even though it is only 10 km from the airport (20 minute drive).
A 'spa inclusive' hotel, the property offers a number of programmes and experiences including yoga, meditation, meetings with monks and local interactions as well as cookery classes, hiking, archery and cultural visits.
Rooms are a comfortable blend of the modern and traditional. Guest can choose between the Balcony or Terrace rooms, each offering fantastic Neyphu valley views towards the historic monastery of Eutok Samdrup Choeling Goenpa, there is a feeling of real serenity, it is in intimate property with only 24 rooms, very boutique.
Facilities include a delicious farm-to-table restaurant with a bar, an outdoor terrace and garden, a gym, and a heated indoor swimming pool. There is also a well equipped spa which offers the more traditional therapies such as massages, sauna and steam baths alongside local Bhutanese medicine treatments, yoga, mindfulness classes and individually designed well-being programs.
